Lite press info, en artikel om bilen från 2014 i USA .
Dan Santoro of Placentia has a fondness for 1959 Pontiac Bonnevilles that goes back to high school, when he drove a 1959 Bonneville 4-door. “I sold it to go into the service, “and regretted it the day I sold it.”
Santoro wasted no time finding another ’59 Bonneville when he left the Air Force 20 years later. “I got out, recalls. “That car happened to be white.”
His current ’59 Bonneville is a blue 2-door hardtop purchased from its original owner in 1990. “He bought the car right off the showroom floor in North Hollywood and was the only one that ever drove it, ” Santoro says of the car’s previous owner.
Seat covers had preserved the factory “Morrokide” vinyl upholstery and the car was very original overall. Santoro has done considerable work to the car over the years, including repainting it in its original color. He also re-chromed the bumpers, polished the trim and rebuilt the engine and transmission.
He comes by his Pontiac interest naturally, as his father worked for a Pontiac dealer and always drove them. Santoro, who is retired from Northrop Grumman, points out that the ’59s introduced such Pontiac hallmarks as the split-front grille and “arrowhead” emblem used by the brand until its demise in 2010. They also were the first “Wide-Track” Pontiacs.
Santoro says he uses the car for shows and that it gets a lot of attention. “If you drive it, you have to learn how to smile and wave, ” he says. “It actually drives very nice.”
