The Porsche 356A Speedster is one of the purest early Porsches: a lightweight, open-top sports car with a low, simple bucket seats and a basic folding softtop. It was created for the American market after importer Max Hoffman pushed Porsche to build a cheaper, more stripped-back lightweight model, and in period it sold in the US for just $2, 995. Using commonly cited year-by-year production figures, the 356A Speedster was built from late 1955 to 1958, with 100 examples in 1955, 416 in 1957 and 556 in 1958. 2, How many exists today is another question…
This 1958 Porsche 356A Speedster was delivered new to the American market in the elegant combination of Hell Elfenbein (Light Ivory) over a black interior. It remained in the United States until 2018, when it was acquired by a Swedish enthusiast with an impressive Porsche collection.
During its time in America, the car was restored in the 1980s. At that point, it was repainted silver and its original engine was replaced with a more powerful 75-horsepower 356B unit.
After arriving in Sweden, the new owner wanted the car brought to an exceptional standard and entrusted it to MOTIKON partner Urbans Garage for a complete body restoration, while the engine and gearbox were rebuilt by 356 specialist Ottfried Krüger. During the restoration, the car was also refinished in the owner’s preferred colour: black.
Now this beautiful Porsche 356A Speedster is ready for its next lucky owner. It presents in exceptional condition, having benefited from a recent restoration. Notably, it still retains its original chrome wheels
